The Taliban Defence Ministry said its operation against armed opponents in Kamdesh district of Nuristan had ended, claiming that 41 people were killed and 62 others detained.
Relations strain further as Afghanistan and Pakistan trade accusations over terrorism and cross-border violence.
Twenty-eight 'fighters' were killed after crossing from Pakistan into eastern Afghanistan, Taliban's defence ministry told news agency Reuters on Sunday, adding that most of them were former Afghan security personnel.
