Archipelago in the Pacific Ocean
The Hawaiian Islands are an archipelago of eight major volcanic islands, several atolls, and numerous smaller islets in the North Pacific Ocean, extending some 1,500 miles from the island of Hawaiʻi in the south to northernmost Kure Atoll. Formerly called the Sandwich Islands, the present name for the archipelago is derived from the name of its largest island, Hawaiʻi.
More on Wikipedia ↗Hurricane Nolo is preparing to complete a remarkable journey around Hawaii, set to dump a final round of rain on Kaua'i as it passes about 250 miles west of the state's westernmost island, after sweeping south of the Big Island over the weekend.
Hurricane Nolo will continue to strengthen as it moves away from Hawaii, forecasters said, but it was still expected to lash the Big Island and Maui with heavy rain.
Hurricane Polo is expected to reach Baja California Sur on Monday as a strong hurricane, while Hurricane Nolo moves away from Hawaii and Tropical Storm Odalys weakens.
