The 22-year-old man from Sacramento told authorities that he had fallen asleep at the wheel while his Tesla was in self-driving mode.
CHP has released dashcam video showing the moment a Tesla slammed into a patrol vehicle on I-80 in Solano County, injuring two officers. Investigators say the 22-year-old driver told them he was asleep while using the vehicle's driver-assistance technology.
The California Highway Patrol hopes that newly released dashcam video serves as a wake-up call for drivers who take dangerous chances with their automated driver assistance systems.
