The United Nations Security Council is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations, and is the United Nations' executive branch, having primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security. Its powers, outlined in the UN Charter, include establishing peacekeeping operations, authorizing military action, and imposing international sanctions. Under Chapter VII of the UN Charter, the Council may identify threats to international peace, determine breaches of that peace, and authorize responses up to and including the use of force.

The Houthis are backed by Iran, and they are widely considered part of the Iranian-led Axis of Resistance.

UN Security Council affirms Saudi Arabia’s right to self-defense, demands Houthis halt attacks on Kingdom
The United Nations Security Council on Friday condemned escalating attacks on Saudi Arabia by Yemeni Houthis. The Houthis have imposed a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia, hitting its tankers and territory and seizing swathes of Yemen's Red Sea coast, which is vital for Saudi oil exports, causing energy prices to jump.
The UN Security Council condemned intensified Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and called for an end to military escalation and respect for freedom of navigation.
