DETROIT -- Years from now, when folks mention Vintage Verlander, this is what they’ll mean. For days, the Tigers had joked about sending Justin Verlander out like Billy Chapel. Never mind that the latter is a fictional character, an aging, once-great Tigers pitcher portrayed by Kevin Costner in the 1999
Verlander won the 2011 American League MVP and Cy Young Award with the Tigers, who drafted him No. 2 overall in 2004.
The three-time Cy Young winner walked off hand-in-hand with his seven-year-old daughter after completing the final start of his 21-season career
