Hurricane Isaias intensified on Thursday as it moved toward the US Gulf Coast, triggering mandatory evacuations in parts of Florida and emergency declarations in Alabama, Qazinform News Agency reports, citing WAM.
Fueled by record-warm Gulf waters, Hurricane Isaias rapidly intensified and is set to be the first hurricane to hit the US mainland since Milton in 2024.
Hurricane Isaias has slightly weakened to a Category 2 as it bears down on the northern Gulf Coast with landfall imminent, triggering dangerous conditions across the region. Landfall is expected around 9 to 10 p.m. EST between Pensacola and Destin, Florida.
