South African electricity public utility
Eskom Hld SOC Ltd or Eskom is a South African state-owned electricity public utility. Eskom was established in 1923 as the Electricity Supply Commission (ESCOM) (Afrikaans: Elektrisiteitsvoorsieningskommissie (EVKOM)). The organization represents South Africa in the Southern African Power Pool.

Ramokgopa says Eskom must undergo fundamental transformation as South Africa moves towards a more liberalised and competitive electricity market.
Electricity and Energy Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has ruled out further government bailouts for Eskom and said South Africans should not expect sustained double-digit electricity tariff increases as the utility enters what he calls its “Eskom 2.0” era.
Despite the municipal debt crisis, Ramokgopa said the restructuring should also improve access to free basic electricity for households.
