Alpha Epsilon Pi isn't officially recognized by the University of Chicago, and the people involved weren't students. That raises questions about what the university can do and how fraternities and colleges can improve safety.
The Chicago Police Department is investigating the assault, which took place early Sunday morning. University officials encouraged anyone with information about the incident or the suspect to contact city or University police.
The 21-year-old woman told police the assault happened during a party at the Alpha Epsilon Pi house, according to the report. Her account was backed up by two friends, who stated they intervened by barging into the bathroom where the attack happened.
