"The American people need to be told the truth," Hossein Mohebbi said, adding that the US had failed in its military campaign against Iran and should leave the region.
President Trump said he was rejecting an Iranian plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian proposal is similar to a memorandum of understanding agreed upon by the U.S. and Iran back in June.
Iran's foreign minister acknowledges Trump's comments, but adds that Tehran is waiting for the "definitive views" of mediators.
