Oil prices climbed further on Tuesday as uncertainty over US-Iran talks fuelled inflation fears. Government bond yields rose to multi-year highs, putting pressure on stocks.
Yields in the U.S. bond market again touched their highest levels in roughly two decades and knocked U.S. stocks further from their record high. The S&P 500 fell 0.8% Monday.
The combination of lower US rates and oil prices seemed to help US equity indices extend last week’s gains ahead of the weekend.
