A Russian drone hit the Kyiv Institute for Nuclear Research on Sept. 30, causing a fire but no casualties or reactor damage, says Ukraine’s nuclear regulator.
The strike, which occurred at around 6:18 p.m. local time on Sept. 30, sparked a fire that was quickly extinguished. No one was injured in the attack, according to a statement.
The VVR-M reactor has been shut down and defueled since 2022. Regulators reported no damage to its safety systems or radiation leaks.
