Mohammad Hassan Saqib, the Taliban police spokesman in Nuristan, claimed that at least 38 opposition fighters were killed in three days of clashes in Kamdesh district. He said another 60-armed opponent were detained.
The ministry alleged that Pakistani militias supported the fighters and said most of those who crossed were former members of Afghanistan’s security forces.
Relations strain further as Afghanistan and Pakistan trade accusations over terrorism and cross-border violence.
