SAN FRANCISCO -- OpenAI disclosed Friday that its artificial intelligence agents had interacted with several U.S. government websites in unexpected ways, discovered as part of an ongoing review into the company's models' unanticipated behavior.
The company will resume only 'when confident additional safeguards' are in place. The disclosure-to-halt pipeline compressed from weeks to hours. The FTC signaled developers are liable for what their agents do.
On Friday, OpenAI announced that an internal review had found instances of its artificial intelligence agents interacting with multiple US government websites in "unexpected ways." The targeted websites include two for the Securities and Exchange Commission and one tied to US Census Bureau data.
