South African electricity public utility
Eskom Hld SOC Ltd or Eskom is a South African state-owned electricity public utility. Eskom was established in 1923 as the Electricity Supply Commission (ESCOM) (Afrikaans: Elektrisiteitsvoorsieningskommissie (EVKOM)). The organization represents South Africa in the Southern African Power Pool.
More on Wikipedia ↗Electricity and Energy Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has ruled out further government bailouts for Eskom and said South Africans should not expect sustained double-digit electricity tariff increases as the utility enters what he calls its “Eskom 2.0” era.
Ramokgopa says Eskom must undergo fundamental transformation as South Africa moves towards a more liberalised and competitive electricity market.
Eskom is being pushed into a new era of financial discipline as government rules out further bailouts and double-digit tariff hikes, while demanding lower costs and greater efficiency.
